Yarn and fabric play.



As I'm taking it easy still, thanks to malingering body. I've had time to make this new cotton shopping bag in crochet. Wide handle so it doesn't dig in when loaded. I included some of my favourite flower rows from Sophie's Universe and made the design up as I went along.
A 22" cushion cover for charity. All Christmas themed fabrics. 
I particularly like the middle section which were decorations on a sheet for mini stockings. 
Snowmen on the front and snowmen on the back. 
The very last of the Christmas scraps went into these 4" coasters. 

I was amazed at how this scrappy granny is coming along. It kind of reminds me of a pond in a flower garden in a Monet-ish way. No doubt it will change when I get more scraps of yarn. For now I am scrap free.
It wont stay that way for long. I've been buying more cheap acrylic 100g balls with an idea for a "land" panel to join onto the ripple section. 
I keep a journal/list book. This cowslip themed fabric with bees on is its new cover. This particular book is special as it began as one of the children's drawing books when they were little. 20 years on the rest of the pages are being used up by me. For me cow parsley is THE smell of the Summer holidays. As a kid on my bike, the lanes were lined in cow parsley and tansy. It's the smell of freedom and adventure, of endless warm days, exploring and not having to rush every day with routine and a school uniform.
Plain dark green on the inside. It's about as simple as a book cover can be, but it has so much sentiment.
Tracy and I had a sew along this week. I had an 18" strip of 2 tone tweed, so I carefully cut the panels of a 1940s reproduction pattern.
I bound each seam with tape I made from a retro looking stash fabric. The button is an original vintage leather one.

I had a free gift with a knitting magazine of some yarn clips to hold your seams together when you are hand sewing them. (Just about in the photo at the bottom.) As there were so many of them, they needed a proper place, so I made a little purse. Bound edges hiding the zip. 
A special matroiska bead for the orange dot ribbon. The little case for the needle tin will also be kept in here, and everything fits inside the roll down yarn bag. Although orange isn't my favourite colour, I have really enjoyed making this bright and cheerful set for yarn.

So sorry you're still in the go slow mode, as I know that is very hard for you. ;) But such things you get up to while going slow too... LOL! LOVE the crochet bag--BEAUTIFUL! How sweet all those Christmas fabrcis you made more goodies with. Your scrappy granny is such fun...it has a wonderful homespun feel with all the different colors playing. LOVELY colors to go your landscape panel. I just love the cow parsley-covered book--that fabric print is so serene and pretty. That little pouch for your yarn clips si sweet and pairs so nice with your knitting bag/craft set. That matroyshka bead is so cute. Your 40's tweed skirt is such a great finish! The leather button is wonderful touch. It's all VERY English country house. Do you have some nice shiny brogues to go with?! VERY much enjoyed our sewing day together--thank you! Beautiful achievements again! The crocheted shopping bag will take the shape of your shopping easily. Amazing work with the skirt, it will be a garment you can wear for decades. I agree with Tracy, you need sensible shoes and a hand knitted cardigan to go with it! Lovely fabric for the book cover.

Look at all you've done! Honestly, I think you are the one-woman charity supporter. I admire the skirt. Sewing has never been my skill, my talent, my thing. You do so much with it and for good purposes, too!

Bounding the seams has made it for me. It takes everything a step further. I barely hold myself from buying 100gr acryllic balls!

 Horace the Gargoyle has an important job.  The hold the bag containing various bird foods. A Great Tit came in onto the bedroom window sill one morning so I used the bird fabric at the top, and Mary Engelbreit  garden fabric for the rest of the outside. I added a pocket to the inside just in case I want to use it when gardening in Spring. The pocket should be enough for seed packets. There has also been this make from a vintage piece of Diary of an Edwardian Lady "Wild Flowers." It covers the little practice amp, and goes with the curtains in the living room which also come from the Diary of an Edwardian Lady range. Da dar! Finished with a plain cream lining and a green dotty binding. The main amp will get the same treatment when the odd metre of the same fabric I tracked down, arrives. I am liking this going away from plastic bags in the cottage and trying to make it cosy and pretty for these colder months which we spend more indoors.

Forest and Makings

A baby quilt for my goddaughter's daughter born this month. After making the Splendid Sampler Quilt for a year in pink and greys, this was the last colour combination in the world I wanted to do, but those are the colours her mother said her room will be in. It has blue tit birds and cow parsley and bees on, so it suits August. A cover for her medical book with cone flowers on. They are in flower in the garden, so again suitable for August. These are the first wheel turned pots I have made! There was an entire day allowed in the pottery room and boy did I need it to learn the technique. Really proud of them. Everything survived the biscuit firing. They need painting in glazes next. Let me show you the Forest nearest the cottage. Crystal cobwebs with diamond dew drops. A spider's hole. Take it easy crafting

Happy Valentine’s Day! I made my husband a hat and finished sewing it up just now. Everything has been a go slow this week with illness. I have managed to work on using up my odd balls of acrylic DK yarn. This hat took a little less than 100g of dk acrylic. Using 3 1/4mm needles I cast on 116 stitches. Stocking stitch for 8cm. (Rolled up brim.) Change to 4mm needles and stocking stitch until work measures 27cm. Cast off 16 stitches, knit 26, cast off 32, knit 26, and cast off the final 16 stitches. I now had 2 groups of 26 stitches. Dealing with one at a time exactly the same as one another: purl a row. Stocking stitch 45 rows, decreasing one stitch at either end of the row in 5th and every following 8th rows. You will end up with 14 stitches. Work 8 rows decreasing at each end of every knit row. You now have 6 stitches. Work 3 rows and cast off. Fold the ears in half and sew the seam. sew across the top of the head. The final seam is the back of the head. Don...
